Baked Beer Bread
Now that chili, stew and soup season is upon us, I thought I’d share a recipe my mom has been making for years, as have I. This bread is so simple to make and you can adapt it using either whole wheat or white flour. I like to do a mix with mine usually, but either way it always comes out super yummy! The best part is it’s simplicity and you don’t even need a loaf pan to make it!
PrintBaked Beer Bread
Super easy baked bread that goes well with stews, soups and salads. I love to use it to make garlic bread too!
- Cook Time: 45 minutes
- Total Time: 45 minutes
- Category: Baking
- Cuisine: Bread
Ingredients
- 3 1/2 cups all purpose flour (white or whole wheat will work)
- 3 TBS sugar
- 1 TBS baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 12 ounces beer
- 1 egg beaten
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Mix flour and the rest of the dry ingredients in a large bowl. Add beer and stir with a fork until just blended. Throw onto a lightly floured surface and quickly knead into a ball. Place bread on a greased baking sheet and slit an “X” in the top with a serrated knife. Brush loaf with beaten egg. Bake until golden brown, approximately 45 minutes.
Notes
After this is baked and has cooled on a cooling rack, I like to split it into 4 pieces. I then wrap them in plastic wrap and place in a freezer bag to put in the freezer for future meals. Freezes very well (but I have to admit, fresh is best!)
